Neko

I have an alright amount of plants and do a lot of research on them, but I do not have a green thumb. More of a swampy gray-green thumb maybe.

Right now I'm trying to grow tomatoes, butternut squash, bell peppers, and ginger.
Today, July 3rd 2023, I put one of my precious plumeria cuttings outside to see if it will thrive in the humidity.
Fingers crossed.

Update: July 18th 2023 - 7 tomato plants are growing steadily with a few flowers on them, one butternut squash is now bigger than my hand, some cantaloupe seeds I dropped in a pot a few weeks ago are growing into lovely vines, my plumeria cutting hasn't changed much, and I'm down to just one bell pepper seedling.

June 23rd 2025 - Long time, no update! That plumeria was unfortunately dug up by squirrels one too many times, and I bought 2 seedlings some time afterward. They're both still going strong, maybe about 6 inches tall each, 4 and 5 big leaves. One has a reddish tint around the leaf stems, so I'm hoping any eventual flowers will be pink! Those seedlings came with a desert rose seedling as well, so I'm seeing how I do with it. It's still growing, but many of the leaves come in a bit malformed. I overwatered it a bit recently and lost a few leaves, so I'm letting it chill.
In sad news, I think I lost the lemon tree my old housemate started from a seed about 8 years ago (left a seed in a napkin after cutting a lemon at work). My overwintering process is rough, as I usually just moved it inside nearish a window and watered it much less than usual, but this year it lost all leaves and didn't regrow them, sadly. The roots still look relatively healthy the last time I checked, but it's been about 3 weeks since then.
Currently, I'm trying to grow cucumbers, spoon tomatoes, beets, ginger, basil, tarragon, orange mint, and pineapple mint. The latter 3 were bought as small plants from a local nursery, the basil was pinched from a grocery store plant and propagated in water (shh!)
Butternut squash is also growing like gangbusters, as usual. Lots of flowers, no baby squash yet as far as I can tell.
I planted a cabbage core sometime last fall to see what would happen, and it's been bolting for months. I hope to harvest some seeds soon since some of the pods are finally starting to turn brown. I've been snacking on some young leaves when I check on the garden.
There's a heat wave hitting the area at the moment, so I'm giving the (usually indoor) tropical plants some outside time in the later mornings, and watering the outside plants more than usual.
